Third Annual Jane’s Walk in Bowness
May 5, 2013 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.
Village Meets City: A Neighbourhood of Contrasts

Jane’s Walk is a series of free neighbourhood walking tours held on the first May weekend in cities around the world. They honour the memory of Jane Jacobs, an urbanist and activist who championed a fresh, community-based approach to city building. Thanks to support from The Calgary Foundation a number of Calgary communities, including Bowness, host fascinating walks through their neighbourhoods.
One of the most eclectic neighbourhoods in Bowness is the east end of Bow Crescent where old and new, modern urban and fifties cottage style live comfortably side by side on the river’s edge. The Bowness walk starts at the park by the John Hextall walking bridge, goes west on Bow Crescent, cuts over to Bowness Road by historic Mary’s Corner Store for a quick glimpse of the contrast with higher density and commercial properties, and then back along the Crescent, back to Bowness Road at 67 St and winding up at our new library.
Along the way you’ll meet residents happy to share their life along the Bow including some green energy projects, brand new homes, riverside back yards, and history of older homes. Volunteers from the BCA and the Bowness Historical Society will be on hand to help the conversation.
If you live along this part of the Crescent and are willing to say hi from your front yard to an enthusiastic group of walkers, please let us know by calling Roslie at 403-288-8300 or e-mailing rmain@mybowness.com. For information on the Bowness Jane’s Walk call 403-288-8300 or info@mybowness.com.
