In April the Bowness Bingo closed our doors for good. The unanimous decision that the Bowness Community Association Board of Directors made to terminate the Bingo program was made with considerable angst and after many discussions at multiple Board meetings. Both the Board and the Finance committee made this decision based on an understanding of both the direct Bingo margin and the contribution margin after considering related overhead costs. Bingo attendance at the BCA has been declining for a number of years; declining to a point where the financial contribution by Bingo is minimal towards the BCA meeting its obligations to sustain the building and its programs for the overall membership. Marketing efforts made both in print, internet and social media have failed to reverse this trend in declining attendance.

The BCA has a limited number of rooms or spaces available for offering programs to its community members. The Board reviews programs and events to provide what is of interest to our entire membership and are looking forward to serving both the seniors and the broader community with new opportunities this fall. We have hired a program coordinator whose specific task is to pull together the considerable resources we have available in Bowness so all can enjoy programming for every age in our community. We have attached a document with programming for seniors in Bowness for your information and will be adding to it in the fall. All of these factors has contributed to the decision of the BCA Board.

We acknowledge Bingo is popular with the remaining core group of community bingo players and they value their bingo evenings. We sincerely hope they can find an alternative Bingo that is currently operating.

We have prepared the following list of other social opportunities for seniors in and around Bowness.
